22 Weeks:-)





Week 22! Our baby is about the size of a papaya. During month five, the average fetus measures about 10.5 to 11.8 inches and weighs about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces.She's got more developed eyes and lips and is looking more and more like a newborn. She's also starting to sleep in cycles - about 12 to 14 hours per day - these are probably the times when I'm not feeling any kicks! Alvin is so anxious to feel the kicks too - hopefully that will start in a couple of weeks.

Last week was another good week:-) I had a wonderful birthday weekend so it was the perfect lead in to an awesome week! Alvin & I started interviewing daycares which is a very grueling task. This is one of many important decisions we will make as parents for our baby girl. Just want to make sure we're making the right decision. We visited one on Thursday and another on Friday. Both were very good and passed the interview by doing a good job answering all of our questions. I know that at the end of the day we will have to go on our instincts. Just like when you interview someone for a job, you never know what you get until they start. We have 2 good options that have openings - we're exploring a few more and we'll make a decision. 

Friday night was dinner club night. Saturday - me & Alvin went to the movies to see The Bourne Legacy (which was really good). Today was church and sorority meeting and of course - back to work tomorrow. The weekends pass by so fast!!!!

Today at sorority meeting - my Soror (Leah) bought our princess her first outfit! It's sooooo adorable. She got it in a 6 month size, so it's a perfect outfit for the summer!

5 more weeks in the 2nd trimester:-) We're still on cloud 9! I'll be writing again next week!

On April 12, 2012 - Alvin and I received the best news ever! I took a home pregnancy test (actually I took 2) and they all reflected positive!!!!! Alvin was not home when I took the first test. I called to find out where he was - he was at a rental property that we recently purchased overseeing a rehab project. I immediately went to the house to see him. I had NO words for him once I saw him - so I just showed him the test. We both hugged and cried (mostly me) and that day was life changing for both us. In 9 months - we will be parents! At that point - we immediately called our parents. Everyone was SUPER excited! Alvin's parents have no grandchildren - so this will be their first:-) For the rest of the evening we fantasized about our baby and how our lives will never ever be the same. I'm so looking forward to moving into this next chapter with Alvin.

Really Missing Martha......

I've missed a few weeks of writing as there has been a lot going on. I have been dealing with the untimely, unfortunate passing of my dearest friend Martha Fondel Smith. I received a call on 9/14 from her husband that she suffered a stroke. I flew down the next morning to see her. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. The person who has been more like a sister to me than a friend for the past 15 years, who has stood by me through thick and thin was laying in a hospital bed not able to breathe on her own and showing no signs of any brain activity. Martha's husband Tony & her family made the decision to let her go - so on Saturday evening my sweet sweet friend went on to be with the Lord. This has been absolutely devastating to me as I don't have many memories over the years that don't include her. She was my trusted a confidante and I was hers. We stood up for each other in our weddings - we got married in the same year only a few months apart. Martha ha

It's A.......

GIRL!!!!!! I am tickled pink and green :-) We had an anatomy scan on Tuesday and were able to see that all of her organs have formed. All 4 chambers of her heart, brain, kidneys, liver, etc. are all there! She's measuring right on target and the doctor said that she looked PERFECT. In fact, he doesn't think I need another ultrasound....which is bittersweet for us because we enjoy getting to see our little princess. Towards the end of the ultrasound - the technician very clearly pointed out that we're having a GIRL! I've been having dreams of little boys the entire pregnancy so I was super shocked. Then the technician said normally the sex is just the opposite of the one you're dreaming of....now someone tells me! I am super duper excited to have a little "mini me." Alvin is already calling her a princess:-) So, now that we know.....I can finally settle on a theme for the nursery!!!! We left for San Francisco on Wednesday and we're really enjoyi
