15 Weeks/ 3 days!

Image
15 Weeks/ 3 days today! This time is just flying by. Last week was a very eventful week for us. My dear friend Constance got married this past Saturday (June 23). I left for Washington, DC on Wednesday and me/ hubby returned on Sunday night. I was busy and on the go from the moment I got in on Wed until we left Sunday. Wednesday - Candice & I were up chatting like 16 year old girls until the wee hours of the morning. Thursday was the bridal shower at B. Smith Restaurant and that evening was the Bachelorette Party at the Leopard Lounge. Thursday was a 14+ hour day for me & the little one. Plus - afterwards Shunda & I were up practically all night chatting! So that made 2 straight nights for me not getting enough sleep...it caught up with me the next day! Friday was the rehearsal followed by the rehearsal dinner. Saturday, June 23rd was the big day. Constance made an absolutely beautiful bride. I really enjoyed the catholic wedding ceremony. The priest put a lot of per

14 Weeks & Happy Father's Day!

14 weeks today! It seems like just yesterday we found out the great news. I'm feeling better and better every day - much like my old self except for the expanded waist line! I'm starting to enjoy eating again - maybe a little too much! Yesterday, hubby took me to eat sushi (cooked rolls of course). Today, we went to church and I treated Alvin to a Pre-Father's Day Dinner at one of his favorite restaurants - South City Kitchen. I know that he is going to be such a great father. I talked to my Daddy this evening - this is probably the first Father's Day in a few years that I haven't been home. So thankful for having (who I think) the best Daddy in the world who has always been supportive of me! Today our little one is the size of a lemon! He or she is 3.4 inches & 1.5 ounces (approximately). The baby has nearly doubled in weight since last week and just keeps on growing!  Our little one is probably sucking his thumb and wiggling his toes :-) His/ her kidney&

13 Weeks/ 1 Day

Sunday has become my new favorite day of the week (aside from Friday - LOL). Our baby gets one week older each Sunday. He's now 13 weeks/ 1 day.  Also, it's the last week of the first trimester! We are 1/3 of the way through the pregnancy! At this point, our little one has vocal cords, teeth, and even finger prints. His intestines are moving from the umbilical cord to the more permanent place - in his tummy! He's about the size of a peach.   Today we had our regularly scheduled dr. appointment. All went well - it was a fairly short appointment. They took blood for testing, doctor measured my stomach and then listened for the baby's heartbeat. The baby's heart beat was very strong! This is like the sweetest noise ever! I've been debating purchasing an in home fetal doppler so that I could hear the heartbeat anytime I felt like it. My doctor strongly discouraged it (and Alvin agrees). She said that since I'm not trained to hear the heartbeat I might not

First Ultrasound today - Love at First Sight!

Image
Love at First Sight - our baby @ 12 wks/ 3 days So today was the day that we've been waiting for SO long. We finally got to see our little one today! He was super duper active moving and bouncing all around. He has a very strong heartbeat (148). Notice I keep saying HE - for whatever reason I really think it's a boy. Also - he measured in at 12 weeks/ 3 days - so right on schedule! Both Alvin & I sat there, holding hands and just amazed and in awe. Today was undoubtedly one of the best days of my life. We'll get to see him again on July 10 and on that day we will confirm the sex. We leave for San Francisco on July 11 - so what a great note to leave Atlanta on. Again - we're feeling very thrilled, blessed, and just amazed. It has been very hard to focus on work, gym or anything else that isn't baby related!!! But, I must get back into the groove and get my head out of the clouds. I'm just amazed that I love someone so much that I've never met be

Test Results are In!

My doctor called me on 5/24 with my test results. Everything looks fine - except my thyroid appeared to be slightly underactive (not producing enough hormones), so she prescribed me a medication (synthroid) that I would have to take daily throughout the course of my pregnancy. I had part of my thyroid removed in '99 and get it checked annually. I had never experienced any issues until now. All other test results were great! Thank you Jesus!

9 Week Appointment Finally!

Finally - it's 9 weeks!!!! Whoo hoo it's time for my first appointment! The night before the appointment I was anxiously filling out what seems to be a book of paperwork.  We got to the appointment around 10:15 and my name was called at 10:20:-) I had to submit a urine sample - which I was told I would do for each appointment! The nurse then took a TON of blood from me to perform a myriad of tests. We then met with my doctor. She spent around 30 minutes with us answering questions and providing information. Next it was time for the examination. Alvin even went in the room with me. That was a LOT of fun *in sarcastic voice* - I've never been poked and prodded more in my whole life. I suppose I better get used to that!!!! So - I was hoping for an ultrasound, heartbeat - something I could see or hear - but that didn't happen. She tried to find the heartbeat with a fetal doppler but could not find it - which is not uncommon. My dr. also outsources her ultrasounds and th

April 13, 2012 - Pregnancy Confirmation & AmFam Awards

I went to see my doctor the day after my pregnancy test for confirmation - and I got it! I was 4 weeks/ 5 days with a due date of 12/16/12 - which is my grandmother's birthday. So, I'm thinking - the next thing is maybe an ultrasound, heartbeat, something tangible!!!! I was pretty disappointed that the next appointment would be scheduled 5 weeks later!!!!! My next appointment would be on May 14. Alvin is as cool as a cucumber and could certainly wait that long - but I'm a nervous wreck! I will be counting down the days until May 14:-) After leaving the doctor we drove to Chateau Elan for the annual American Family Insurance Awards Ceremony. Alvin had a meeting as soon as we got there. I hung out in the room and called my friends to tell the good news. I know you're technically supposed to wait until after the first trimester but I could not help it!!!! Later on that evening we went to the Awards Ceremony and Alvin told everyone who was within an earshot that I was p

Introduction

On April 12, 2012 - Alvin and I received the best news ever! I took a home pregnancy test (actually I took 2) and they all reflected positive!!!!! Alvin was not home when I took the first test. I called to find out where he was - he was at a rental property that we recently purchased overseeing a rehab project. I immediately went to the house to see him. I had NO words for him once I saw him - so I just showed him the test. We both hugged and cried (mostly me) and that day was life changing for both us. In 9 months - we will be parents! At that point - we immediately called our parents. Everyone was SUPER excited! Alvin's parents have no grandchildren - so this will be their first:-) For the rest of the evening we fantasized about our baby and how our lives will never ever be the same. I'm so looking forward to moving into this next chapter with Alvin.
