Our Stay at the Ritz CHOA

I was telling my husband that I wanted a weekend at the Ritz where all I would do is lay in the bed, watch movies, and order room service. Well, the weekend of November 7 - 10 that's exactly what I got. On the night of 11/6, I noticed Camille had a small hard lump on her bottom that was painful to touch. We took her to Fayette Piedmont Hospital Emergency Room and they confirmed that it was a boil and needed to be drained. The only problem is that they would have to sedate her to drain it and since she had eaten in the last 4 hours they weren't able to drain it. The next morning we took her to Children's Hospital of Atlanta to have it drained --  we thought it would be an in/ out procedure. We were SO wrong. The boil had doubled in size from the night before and was very very heavily infected. They told us that they would have to administer antibiotics through an IV to be sure the infection was gone. We stayed there from Friday - Monday! And all we did was lay with Camille, watch TV, and order room service from the cafeteria! Be careful what you ask for! Camille was great by the time Monday came - I think the worst thing for her was being hooked up to the IV and unable to run around. This was a scary experience for us because up until this hospital visit we have never taken Camille to an Emergency Room or hospital since the day she was born. Here are a few pictures of us goofing around!

On April 12, 2012 - Alvin and I received the best news ever! I took a home pregnancy test (actually I took 2) and they all reflected positive!!!!! Alvin was not home when I took the first test. I called to find out where he was - he was at a rental property that we recently purchased overseeing a rehab project. I immediately went to the house to see him. I had NO words for him once I saw him - so I just showed him the test. We both hugged and cried (mostly me) and that day was life changing for both us. In 9 months - we will be parents! At that point - we immediately called our parents. Everyone was SUPER excited! Alvin's parents have no grandchildren - so this will be their first:-) For the rest of the evening we fantasized about our baby and how our lives will never ever be the same. I'm so looking forward to moving into this next chapter with Alvin.

Really Missing Martha......

I've missed a few weeks of writing as there has been a lot going on. I have been dealing with the untimely, unfortunate passing of my dearest friend Martha Fondel Smith. I received a call on 9/14 from her husband that she suffered a stroke. I flew down the next morning to see her. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. The person who has been more like a sister to me than a friend for the past 15 years, who has stood by me through thick and thin was laying in a hospital bed not able to breathe on her own and showing no signs of any brain activity. Martha's husband Tony & her family made the decision to let her go - so on Saturday evening my sweet sweet friend went on to be with the Lord. This has been absolutely devastating to me as I don't have many memories over the years that don't include her. She was my trusted a confidante and I was hers. We stood up for each other in our weddings - we got married in the same year only a few months apart. Martha ha

It's A.......

GIRL!!!!!! I am tickled pink and green :-) We had an anatomy scan on Tuesday and were able to see that all of her organs have formed. All 4 chambers of her heart, brain, kidneys, liver, etc. are all there! She's measuring right on target and the doctor said that she looked PERFECT. In fact, he doesn't think I need another ultrasound....which is bittersweet for us because we enjoy getting to see our little princess. Towards the end of the ultrasound - the technician very clearly pointed out that we're having a GIRL! I've been having dreams of little boys the entire pregnancy so I was super shocked. Then the technician said normally the sex is just the opposite of the one you're dreaming of....now someone tells me! I am super duper excited to have a little "mini me." Alvin is already calling her a princess:-) So, now that we know.....I can finally settle on a theme for the nursery!!!! We left for San Francisco on Wednesday and we're really enjoyi
